We recognise that causes and effects of poverty are complex, multifaceted and rooted in the unequal design of our economies. Being able to earn an income does not always automatically lift someone out of poverty or homelessness.

That is why street papers are committed to driving long-term change by providing people in poverty with a platform to have their stories heard and to influence the policies that most affect them. To effectively fight poverty, we must listen to people who have experienced it. Read articles from INSP and our member street papers here.

It is also why many street papers run wraparound services offered at the point of need. These services can include:

• Housing placements

• Employability training

• Signposting and access to health services

• Emergency supplies of food and clothing

• Language classes

• Support with gaining citizenship status

• Social enterprises cafes for people to come together over a cup of coffee.
